Why another cloud drive.

Akorn is built by 2038 Systems, a small software shop. It started the way most small tools do: we needed to hand client files back and forth without wondering who else could see them, and every product we tried made the secure way the hard way.

So we made the secure way the default. A private drive that can't be shared. Guests who see one folder. Links that expire on their own. A log that answers "who touched this" without a support ticket. The rest of the product is about making those defaults pleasant to live with.

The name

An acorn is a small thing that holds everything it needs. The mark on the logo is an acorn whose cap is also a padlock. The spelling comes from a set of initials that matter to the founder, and we liked that it made the word ours.

What we care about

• Security you can see, not security you have to trust.
• Plain language. If a setting needs a paragraph to explain, the setting is wrong.
• Nothing destructive without an undo.
• No ads, no profiling, no dark patterns in the upgrade path.
